Gram-negative bacteria have a thin peptidoglycan layer and an outer membrane containing lipopolysaccharide. This outer membrane affects antibiotic susceptibility, immune activation, and environmental resistance. Examples include Escherichia coli, Salmonella, Pseudomonas, and Vibrio.
