Small protein tag that marks proteins for regulation or degradation.
Ubiquitin is covalently attached to target proteins through enzymatic cascades. Polyubiquitination often directs proteins to the proteasome. Ubiquitin signaling also regulates DNA repair, trafficking, and immune responses.
