Protein complex that degrades ubiquitinated proteins.
The proteasome breaks down damaged, misfolded, or regulated proteins into peptides. It maintains protein quality control and controls levels of short-lived regulatory proteins. Proteasome inhibitors are used in some cancer therapies.
