A growth phase in which cell division and cell death are approximately balanced.
Stationary phase occurs when nutrients become limited or waste products accumulate. Microorganisms may activate stress responses, produce secondary metabolites, form spores, or change cell morphology. This phase is important in antibiotic production, survival studies, and microbial ecology.
