Peptide hormone that raises blood glucose.
Glucagon is secreted by pancreatic alpha cells during fasting or hypoglycemia. It stimulates glycogenolysis and gluconeogenesis in the liver. Its actions oppose insulin in maintaining glucose homeostasis.
