Cyclic AMP, a second messenger derived from ATP.
cAMP is produced by adenylyl cyclase and activates protein kinase A and other effectors. It regulates metabolism, hormone responses, and gene expression. Its levels are controlled by synthesis and degradation through phosphodiesterases.
